ROCKY GLEN RETREAT
KING ISLAND
More information-
King Island is the guardian of the western entrance to Bass Strait,
with picturesque beaches, clean air, offshore reefs, rocky coasts
and shipwrecks. The tallest lighthouse in the southern hemisphere
at Cape Wickham along with 4 other lighthouses, were built to guide
sailors safely around King Island shores.
Cray fishermen,
abalone divers, locals, also visitors, recreationally fish the rich
waters around King Island, while "Kelpies" harvest bull kelp tossed
onto the shore.
Beef, dairy
cattle and sheep, shelter behind tree lanes on the flat and thriving
farmlands. Lush grass is the secret of the succulent local beef,
rich cream and award winning, hand made cheeses.
A short boat
trip off shore, to Reid Rocks is a major breeding colony for the
Australian fur seals. King Island's Wildlife is a mixture of native
and exotic creatures and birds thriving along with the lovely flora
& fauna.
King Islander's
are friendly and a highlight is the "giday" wave, from every car
that passes on the roads.
