KING ISLAND More information
Sporting
Seasons on King Island - Visitors Info.
Golf - Currie & Grassy all year round
Marathon - Imperial 20 Annually during the March long weekend
Surfing - King Island Beaches are rated highly by Surfers
all year round. Martha Lavinia has been voted by 'Tracks' Magazine
as the best beach wave in Australia and rated at number 13 in the
top 100 waves of Australia.
Fishing - Beach, Surf and chartered fishing is available,
but wind direction will dictate where to go. Most ocean beaches
carry good Australian Salmon, Mullet, Flathead and Gummy and School
Shark. Most popular beaches are Martha Lavinia, Phoques Bay and
Red Hut. Sea Elephant bay is a good place for beginners. Sweep are
a popular rock fish sought by locals. There are three stocked lakes
on the Island - Penny's Lagoon, Cask Lake and Lake Wickham (the
two lakes are on private property, but the KI Tourist Association
has permission from Landowners for visitor access).
Diving - Rock Lobster - K.I. Crayfish and Abalone can be
taken (seasonal), with the required permits. The Island has many
shipwrecks but little remains to be investigated, as the heavy seas
of Bass Strait have destroyed the remains. Nothing is to be removed
from them.
Clay Target / Game Hunting - Correct Licenses and permission
from landowners is always essential. See Service Tasmania Shop for
further details.
Wallaby, Feral Turkey & Peafowl - May be taken all year round
Wild Duck - March - June
Mutton Bird - March - April
